I was nonplussed by the way the Tibetans class intelligence as a virtue, when I first encountered it. They don't think of it as a capacity at all; I get the impression they think everyone is smart enough -- some people just exert themselves more to think.

I don't know who's closer to right -- maybe both cultures are wrong -- but it's certainly a different take on it.


Huh. I didn't know that about the Tibetans. I'll have to look into it!
